Hotel Velina

In the 1960s the government of Bulgaria assigned a team of scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Science and the Medical Academy to build a balneological centre for relaxation and treatment of the high ranking officials.

After a thorough review of the balneological centres in Bulgaria, the scientists proposed Velingrad as the location which meets best the given criteria. The final choice of the location was taken after consideration in details of a number of other options.

Architect Lazarov gathered a team to design a balneological complex and in 1969 the complex was inaugurated.

Through the years the buildings of the complex and the facilities were constantly improved while the personnel continued to develop professional skills in the areas of balneology and tourism.

In the period 2005-2007 the complex was entirely renovated according the project of Yordan Stefanov and his team.

Today hotel Velina is a fashionable four-star hotel, certified under all international standards for good working practices and systems for food and services safety.
